Author Paula Ikuutaq Rumbolt is from Baker Lake, Nunavut, Canada. Growing up, formal education was strongly encouraged by her grandmother realizing it was the way to make it in the modern world. After high school, Paula attended Nunavut Sivuniksavut, a unique post secondary program designed to empower Inuit youth located in Ottawa.  Through this program she connected with her culture, learned Inuit history, and when returning home learned how to sew, speak with her elders in the community and began to feel a strong connection to her culture.
